The basics

What are mosquito screens for windows — and why they matter in Dubai

A mosquito screen for a window is a fine mesh panel fitted so the window can be opened for light and fresh air while insects stay out. It is made to the size and style of the window, and it comes in a few forms: a fixed panel that stays put, a sliding screen that runs on a track, a retractable screen that rolls away, or a pleated screen that folds to one side. Whichever the type, the job is the same — let the breeze through, keep the bugs out.

Windows are where most homes feel the problem first. Throw one open on a warm Dubai evening and you invite in the night air, but also mosquitoes drawn to the light and the fine dust that travels on the breeze. A window screen lets you ventilate freely without either, which also eases the load on the air-conditioning when the weather is kind — fresh air on your terms, rather than a choice between a stuffy room and a room full of insects.

There is a health side to it too. Because mosquitoes are not merely a nuisance but a recognised carrier of disease — the World Health Organization ties them to a heavy global burden of vector-borne diseases — a screen on a bedroom or living-room window is a simple, lasting line of defence, working quietly every night without sprays or plug-ins.

Part of the appeal is that almost any window can be screened. Casement windows that swing out, sliding windows, top-hung awning windows, tall picture windows and even arched or round openings can all take a made-to-measure screen. The mesh itself is fine and taut, so it holds back the smallest midges and dust while staying unobtrusive enough that, from inside, you mostly look straight through it to the view beyond. Better still, the screens work with the windows you already have: there is no need to change the glass or the frames, as the mesh and its own slim surround simply mount to the existing opening.

Every screen is cut to the individual window rather than forced from a stock size, which is what keeps the fit tight and the operation smooth, and most lift or clip out in seconds when you want to clean the glass. The same care goes into the screens for the doors and patio openings elsewhere in the home. Where mosquito screens for windows really earn their place is the everyday comfort of an open window with nothing unwanted coming in.

  • Fits casement, sliding, awning, picture and arched windows
  • Fine mesh keeps mosquitoes, flies and fine dust out
  • Lets daylight and fresh air come straight through
  • Lifts or folds out of the way to clean the glass
In short: a made-to-measure mesh that lets a window open for light and air while mosquitoes, flies and Dubai dust stay outside.

Open the window, keep the view

Our mosquito screens for windows are designed to all but disappear. The mesh is fine enough that, from a step back, you read the garden, the street or the skyline rather than the screen itself, and on a bright day the room keeps its daylight. Open the window behind it and the breeze moves straight through, so a sealed, stuffy room is no longer the price of keeping insects out. In a Dubai home that counts for much of the year, when a cool evening or a mild winter afternoon is exactly when you want the windows wide rather than the air-conditioning running.

Each screen is cut to the individual window and finished to match the frame, so it looks built in rather than added on. See windows we have fitted in our recent work, and the same approach covers the doors and patio openings around the home.

Frames come powder-coated in white, black, grey or a custom shade to blend with your windows, and most panels lift or clip out in seconds when the glass needs a wipe.

Screen options

Screen options for your windows

We make mosquito screens for windows in every style, and the right one depends on the window: how it opens, how often you use it, and how wide it is. Here are the main choices.

Fixed window screens

The most common and affordable option: a permanent mesh panel for a window you keep screened right through the season.

Fixed screens →

Sliding window screens

A framed screen on its own track for sliding windows, gliding aside as the window does so each half can open.

Sliding screens →

Retractable window screens

Rolls away into a slim cassette when you want the window fully clear, then pulls back across in seconds.

Retractable screens →

Pleated window screens

Folds like a concertina to one side, handy for a wider window or where a fixed panel would get in the way.

Pleated screens →

Wide picture windows

A flat, clear-view plain mesh drawn sideways covers very wide picture windows a small screen cannot span.

Plain mesh →

High or hard-to-reach

A powered screen suits a high stairwell or clerestory window, lowered and raised at the touch of a button.

Motorized screens →

Not every window needs the same screen, and a few may not need one at all. We look at how each window opens and how often, then suggest the simplest screen that does the job — usually a fixed panel for the windows you rarely touch, and a moving screen for the ones you open every day.

Options

Frames, mesh and colour options

The frames behind our mosquito screens for windows are slim powder-coated aluminium — light enough to sit unobtrusively on a window, yet rigid enough to hold the mesh flat and true. They are built to your window, whether that means an in-frame fit that tucks inside the reveal, an over-frame fit that sits on the face, or a hinged panel for a casement you open inward.

The mesh is where you tune the balance of view and protection. A standard fibreglass weave is the all-rounder for most windows; a finer weave holds back the smallest midges and more of the fine desert dust; and a tougher pet-resistant mesh shrugs off a curious cat. Our mosquito mesh types guide compares them if you would like to choose for yourself.

Every frame can be powder-coated to match or contrast with your windows, in white, black, grey or a custom colour, and the screens are built to lift, slide or fold out of the way, so cleaning the glass is never a chore.

Budgeting

How much do mosquito screens for windows cost in Dubai?

Window screens are among the most affordable screens we make, and the price comes down to the size of the window, the type of screen and the mesh. Treat the figures below as a guide to budget around; the firm number comes once we have measured the actual windows.

Indicative supplied-and-fitted prices — Dubai, 2026. Confirmed in a written quote.
Window screenTypical windowFrom (AED)
Fixed window screenA standard casement or awning window250
Sliding window screenA sliding (sideways) window350
Retractable window screenA window you open every day550
Wide / picture-window screenA large or very wide window900
Fine-mesh or pet-tough upgradeFiner dust mesh or pet-tough weave+120

A handful of things move the figure, and we run through each at the survey:

  • Window size — a small casement costs less than a wide picture window.
  • Screen type — a fixed panel is the cheapest; sliding, retractable and pleated cost more.
  • Mesh grade — a finer dust mesh or a pet-tough weave adds a little.
  • Fit style — an in-frame fit, an over-frame fit or a hinged panel each differ slightly.
  • How many windows — doing several in one visit brings the per-window price down against screening them one at a time.

The simplest way to a real figure is to let us measure. We will go window by window, suggest the right screen for each, and send an itemised written quote for your mosquito screens for windows — no obligation, no pressure to book.

For what they cost, window screens are some of the best value in the home: a one-off fit that pays you back every evening you can open up for the breeze without reaching for a spray, season after season, with almost nothing to maintain. Most homes screen the rooms that matter first — bedrooms and the kitchen, where open windows and insects clash most — then add the rest over time, which spreads the cost without leaving the worst-hit windows bare.

Fixed or openable

Fixed or openable — which window screen fits?

Both kinds of mosquito screens for windows keep insects out just as well; the difference is whether the screen stays put or moves so you can work the window. Which suits comes down to how often that window is opened.

Fixed screens

A permanent mesh panel that stays in place over the window. The cheapest and tidiest choice for a window you keep shut to run the AC, or one you only rarely open.

VS

Openable screens

Sliding, retractable and pleated screens that move aside so the window opens freely. The pick for a window you open and close every day.

If you open a window daily, an openable screen earns its place: a vertical retractable screen rolls clear, while a fixed screen is the cheaper choice for a window that mostly stays shut. Point us at each window and we will say which of the two suits it.

Mosquitoes are tackled on more than one front. The city’s own Dubai Municipality carries out seasonal control work outdoors, while screening your windows is what you do indoors — so every window becomes one you can leave open into the evening without a second thought.

Screening more than your windows? We cover the rest of the home too:

Measured, made and fitted to each window

Getting a window screen right is all in the measuring and the fit. One team measures every window, notes how each one opens, and builds the screen and frame to those exact figures, so the finished panel sits square in the opening with no gaps at the edges for insects to find. A screen made to the window, not trimmed from a stock size, is what keeps the fit clean and the operation smooth for years.

Fitting is a single tidy visit. We set fixed panels into or over the frames, hang sliding and retractable screens on their tracks, and check every one opens, closes or lifts out as it should before we leave. On an upper floor or a child’s room we will also point you to proper window restrictors for fall safety, since a screen is there for insects, not as a safety barrier. Want to know who actually carries out the fitting? Read a little about us first, then have a look at everything else we make, from window screens to full door and balcony systems.

Why us

Why Dubai homes choose Mosquito Net Pro for window screens

Own workshop & fitters Made to each window Fits any window style Workmanship warranty

A window screen is only as good as its fit, and a home full of windows is exactly where small errors show — a panel that rattles, a gap at one corner, a screen that fouls the handle. We build our mosquito screens for windows to each opening and check the operation on every one, so the panel sits square, the edges seal, and the window still works the way it should. On a run of matching windows we keep the frames and mesh consistent from room to room, so the screens read as one set rather than a patchwork of slightly different panels.

We will also give you a straight answer on what a given window actually needs. Not every window calls for the dearest screen, and some upper-floor openings are better paired with a window restrictor for safety than dressed up as something they are not. An adviser measures each window, talks you through the options for it, and recommends the simplest screen that solves the problem rather than the most expensive one. Where two screens would each do, we will say so and explain the trade-off in plain terms — a fixed panel that costs less against a retractable one that rolls clear — so the choice stays yours.

What homeowners notice afterwards is how ordinary it becomes to live with open windows: daylight and a breeze through the house, no mosquitoes at dusk, far less dust on the sills. There is more worth seeing before you decide: get a feel for how we work, browse windows we have screened, and read what customers say.

For a one-off job with so little upkeep, mosquito screens for windows quietly change how a home feels through the warm months — which is why, window by window, so many Dubai households end up screening the lot.

Window screen FAQs

Will a window mosquito screen block my light or view?
No. The mesh is very fine and taut, so it lets most of the daylight and breeze through and, from inside, you mostly look straight past it to the view. A standard weave is barely noticeable, and a finer dust mesh trades only a touch of openness for extra protection.
Can I still open and close the window with a screen fitted?
Yes. Sliding and retractable screens move with the window so you operate it as normal, while a fixed screen sits just outside or inside the opening and the window works freely behind it. We pick the type to suit how each window is used.
Which screen suits a casement window versus a sliding window?
A casement or awning window that swings open is usually best with a fixed or hinged screen on the room side, so the sash still opens outward. A sliding window, by contrast, takes a sliding screen running on its own track alongside it. We will recommend the right match when we measure.
Are the window screens removable for cleaning the glass?
Most are. Fixed and sliding window screens are designed to lift or clip out in seconds so you can clean the glass, then go straight back in. Retractable and pleated screens just roll up or concertina to one side, which clears the whole window for cleaning.
Are window screens safe for upper-floor and children’s rooms?
An insect screen keeps bugs out but is not a safety barrier and should never be relied on to stop a fall. For a child’s room or a high window, fit proper window restrictors or locks for fall safety and use the screen alongside them for insects. We are always happy to advise.
Do window screens keep out dust as well as mosquitoes?
They help a great deal. A standard mesh stops mosquitoes and flies, and a finer weave also holds back much of the fine dust that drifts in on the breeze in Dubai. It will not seal a room like closed glass, but it makes an open window far cleaner to live with.
Do you make screens for arched, round or odd-shaped windows?
Yes. Because every screen is fabricated to measure, we can shape one for arched, round, triangular and other non-standard windows, not just plain rectangles. We template the opening so the finished screen follows its exact lines.
How much do mosquito screens for windows cost in Dubai?
A standard fixed window screen starts around AED 250, with sliding, retractable and wide picture-window screens costing more, and finer or pet-tough mesh adding a little. It comes down to the window’s size, the screen type you pick and the mesh grade, so the firm price is the one we put in writing once we have measured.
